What is borehole drilling and do I need one?
Borehole drilling involves sinking a narrow shaft into the ground to access underground water (groundwater). If you experience frequent water shortages, high municipal water bills, or live in a rural area without reliable water supply, a borehole gives you an independent, sustainable water source for your home, farm, or business.
Is Rainbore Drilling a licensed and registered company?
Yes. Rainbore Drilling Pvt Limited is a fully licensed and registered company operating in compliance with Zimbabwe Water Authority (ZINWA), Environmental Management Agency (EMA), and Zimbabwe Standards (ZWS) regulations. All our drillers are trained and certified professionals.
How soon can you start a new borehole project?
We typically schedule new projects within 3–7 days of consultation, depending on project complexity and site accessibility. Emergency water restoration projects receive priority scheduling and we do our best to mobilise within 24–48 hours.
Do you offer free site assessments?
Yes, we provide complimentary initial site assessments for potential borehole drilling projects. Our experts will evaluate your location, review geological data, and provide preliminary recommendations — all at no cost to you.
Is borehole water safe to drink?
Borehole water quality varies by location. We recommend a water quality test before drinking directly from the borehole. We offer water quality testing services and can advise on the correct filtration or treatment system if needed. Many of our clients' boreholes produce water that meets WHO drinking water standards.
How deep do you drill a borehole?
Depth depends on your location's geology and the depth of the water table. In Zimbabwe, boreholes typically range from 30 to 120 metres. Our geologists conduct a hydrogeological survey to estimate the expected depth before drilling begins, so you aren't surprised by the final figure.
How long does it take to drill a borehole?
For a standard residential borehole, the actual drilling typically takes 1–3 days. The full project — including casing, development, pump installation, and testing — usually takes 3–7 days from mobilisation. Larger commercial or agricultural projects may take longer depending on depth and system complexity.
How do you know where to drill?
We use a combination of hydrogeological surveys, geological mapping, and geophysical methods including electrical resistivity surveys to identify the most promising drilling locations on your site. This scientific approach significantly increases the likelihood of striking a productive aquifer and minimises wasted drilling costs.
What happens if the borehole is dry?
While our geological surveys greatly reduce this risk, a dry borehole can occasionally occur due to unexpected geological conditions. In such cases, we will discuss alternative siting options on your property at a reduced re-mobilisation cost. We are transparent about risks before drilling begins and will never proceed without your informed consent.
What pump systems do you install?
We install a wide range of pump systems including submersible electric pumps, solar-powered pumps, hand pumps (bush pumps), and pressure booster systems. Our engineers will recommend the most suitable pump based on your water yield, depth, power availability, and usage requirements.
How much does borehole drilling cost in Zimbabwe?
Borehole drilling costs vary depending on depth, location, geology, and the type of pump and system installed. We provide detailed, itemised quotations after a site assessment so you know exactly what you are paying for. Contact us for a free, no-obligation quote tailored to your specific site and needs.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept bank transfers, cash (USD and ZiG), and mobile money payments (EcoCash, OneMoney). Commercial and institutional clients can be invoiced with agreed payment terms. A deposit is required before mobilisation, with the balance due upon project completion.
Do you provide a written quotation and contract?
Absolutely. We always provide a detailed written quotation outlining all scope of work, materials, and costs before any work begins. A formal contract is signed by both parties prior to mobilisation. We believe in full transparency — no hidden fees, no surprises.
Are there ongoing costs after drilling?
Once your borehole is installed, the main ongoing costs are electricity or solar energy to run the pump, and periodic maintenance (recommended annually). These costs are far lower than ongoing municipal water bills for most clients. We offer affordable annual maintenance contracts to keep your system running optimally.
How often should a borehole be serviced?
We recommend a full borehole service at least once a year. This includes pump inspection, water yield testing, water quality testing, and checking all electrical and mechanical components. Regular servicing extends the life of your pump and prevents costly emergency repairs.
What are signs that my borehole needs attention?
Warning signs include reduced water flow or pressure, unusual noises from the pump, discoloured or cloudy water, a noticeable change in taste or smell, the pump running but producing no water, or the pump tripping the circuit breaker. If you notice any of these, contact us promptly to avoid further damage.
Can a borehole run dry over time?
Properly designed boreholes drilled into reliable aquifers can last for many decades. However, over-pumping beyond the borehole's sustainable yield can cause temporary drawdown. Our engineers size your pump correctly for your aquifer's yield to prevent this. Seasonal fluctuations in water levels are normal but should stabilise with good management.
Do you offer a warranty on your work?
Yes. All our drilling and installation work comes with a workmanship warranty. Pump equipment warranties are provided in line with manufacturer terms. We stand behind the quality of our work and are always available to address any post-installation concerns.
What areas outside Harare do you serve?
We provide services throughout Zimbabwe, including Bulawayo, Mutare, Gweru, Masvingo, and rural areas. Additional travel and mobilisation fees may apply for locations outside major urban centres — these will always be clearly stated in your quotation upfront.
Do you handle emergency water restoration calls?
Yes — emergency water restoration is available across all our service areas. Call us directly on +263 772 604 550 or +263 773 888 995 for urgent assistance. We prioritise emergency callouts and aim to respond as quickly as possible to minimise your disruption.
Do you work with NGOs and community projects?
Absolutely. We have a strong track record working with NGOs, rural district councils, schools, clinics, and community groups to provide clean water access to underserved communities. We offer competitive pricing for community and humanitarian projects and can work within donor procurement requirements.
Do you drill boreholes for farms and agricultural use?
Yes, agricultural borehole solutions are one of our core services. We design high-yield borehole systems for irrigation, livestock watering, and general farm use — including solar-powered pump systems that reduce running costs. We serve commercial farms across Mashonaland, Manicaland, Midlands, and Matabeleland.
